Become a Better Actor

Have you always dreamed of being an actor? Do you often imitate your teachers to make your friends roll on the floor laughing? Do you regularly take part in school/college plays? Does acting make you really happy? If you just said yes to all these questions, the chances are that you do want to be an actor.

But are you also battling with self-doubts? Do you wonder if you would be able to make it big in the Indian film industry? As many motivational speakers often say- action cures fear. You must take action to hone your acting skills. Getting admission in one of the top acting schools in India is one option. But that too would be an obstacle if you are just a beginner, as the best acting schools choose students very selectively. Here are a few tips to get started:

1. Do warm up exercises
Warm up exercises are not only for dancers and athletes; it’s for dancers too. Make sure you warm up your facial muscles and body before each practice.

2. Get involved
It is important to read each and every word very carefully. Don’t just read your dialogues, feel them. Get involved completely! Acting is not the same as recitation. Each dialogue must be spoken passionately if you desire move the audience.

3. Hard work
Getting involved is easier said than done. To become someone completely different from your personality is not easy. You must practice day and night. Many distinguished actors of the Indian cinema did not belong to a film background. Driven by their passion, they started from scratch.

4. Healthy criticism
People don’t like to be criticized. It’s a human tendency. But in order to bridge the gap between your reality and your goals, you must take criticism from your seniors in the right spirit.

Acting is one major creative field. But you could also explore more areas by enrolling yourself in a photography institute, designing course, or animation course depending on your interests. After all, making mistakes and learning from them is what life is all about. Best of luck!
