When one decides to enter the filmmaking and entertainment industry, they have to be prepared for the competitive nature and struggle filled life. Unlike what’s shown in movies and television shows, rarely does it ever happen that one stumbles upon success without any work or struggle. The industry is filled with many and only a few rise to the top and achieve success.
The fight for admission in the best acting school in Delhi, or in any other state, seems trivial when faced with the challenge of actually getting work. Producers and all only want to work with those who have experience and how will one get that if no one agrees to work with them. Also up until now, only the main stream media productions were recognised and they were the ones rolling in loads of money.
But, in the past few years, cinema, especially Indian cinema has started to recognise another dimension of the filmmaking industry, that of, independent filmmakers. Western society already knew about this sector and even had multiple popular festivals where upcoming filmmakers, actors and editors and more could showcase their talents.
These independent filmmakers are usually those who are not affiliated with any big production house, or are very new to the industry, and thus don’t have the proper credentials for the big houses. That is why, these film festivals are not only a platform for their talent, but also allows them to build connections with the people in the film fraternity.
And these film festivals are not just for filmmakers, but also photographers from photography institute attend them to build connections and form a portfolio. And budding actors too, are a part of them.
The films shown in these festivals are made with a very low budget, with unknown people and with original stories. In the past few years, the main stream audience and industry has realised the potential of the talent shown at these festivals and is getting interested in working with some of the performers showcased.
