Finest Film & Television Institute of India

First film is very special to every filmmaker. It is when the dream is finally realized and to look at your thoughts running on a big screen is just fantastic. From an art perspective, the debut film can be good or bad it doesn’t matter, because it is the first attempt to give pictures to your words, however from a career perspective, a bad first film can hamper your chances of getting successful early. So here are a few tips to keep in mind to produce a near-perfect first film:

Don’t overdo it

There have been instances where filmmakers went on to win big with their debut film, but the truth remains that the big names will always be paid more heed. So don’t waste time on looking for VFX artists to make over the top graphics, or stunt directors to make your debut special. Keep your story and action as simple as possible.

Study well

Art is not something you literally study, but the more films you watch, you get an innate understanding of cinema. There aren’t exactly rules in Film Studies , but there are styles which are suited for a typical audience and if you have that knowledge, it makes producing a crowd pleasing film easier. Also, watch more and more indie films so you can understand how to make good films with budget restrictions.

Be technologically sound

Gone are the days when huge sets were required even to shoot simple scenes. The industry depends on technologies like CGI, Green Scree, VFX etc. and being comfortable with these puts you in a better position as a filmmaker. Studying from AAFT School of Cinema, the Best Film and Television Institute of India, you just have to focus on performing your art, because your technological knowledge will be sharpened by the college.
